Fuquay-Varina is home.
Bill is a lifelong resident of Fuquay-Varina. He graduated from Fuquay Consolidated High School and earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration from North Carolina Central University (NCCU). After graduating from NCCU, he began his career as a probation officer, later directing an alternative sentencing program for individuals with substance abuse issues. He was drawn into public service through community involvement first in the PTA, then in church leadership and eventually was appointed as a commissioner to fill a vacancy. His early reluctance gave way to a deep commitment to serving the public, reinforced by earning a Master's in Public Administration from his alma mater to better understand and influence policy.
Bill’s tenure as a Town Commissioner is marked by tangible achievements: securing natural gas services for underserved neighborhoods, helping establish Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day as an official local holiday, creating the town’s Public Safety Committee, and winning a $500,000 federal grant to support policing and prevention programs. He also introduced the town’s first capital improvement plan, laying the groundwork for disciplined, long-term growth planning.
In addition to his duties as a Commissioner, Bill has served as the President of the North Carolina League of Municipalities (NCLM) from 2023-2024 and on the Board of Directors. He also served as Co-Chairman of the Tax and Finance Sub-Committee and continues to remain active with the NCLM.
Bill approaches leadership with fairness, inclusivity, and an unwavering commitment to all residents, regardless of background. He attributes his communication skills and sense of service to his parents, his mother, a pioneering female barber, and his father, a professional caddy turned textile mill worker both of whom modeled relationship-building and integrity.
After more than 30 years of service and employment, he retired from the North Carolina Department of Human Services, where he concluded his career as a member of the Community Engagement and Empowerment Team.
Bill is a member of First Baptist Church and has served in various roles, including Sunday School Teacher, Church Treasurer, and Chairman of the Deacon Board. He is a 32nd Degree Mason and member of the Iota Iota Chapter of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity Inc. He loves to play the trumpet and golf. He and his wife Meta reside in Fuquay-Varina, where they’ve raised three children and are currently the proud grandparents of six beautiful grandchildren.
We’re making a Fuquay-Varina that’s better for everyone.
Growth & Development
Fuquay-Varina can grow without losing its heart. I support balanced development and welcoming a clean sustainable business environment that strengthens our economy while preserving the small-town character that makes Fuquay-Varina such a special place to call home. Smart planning that prioritizes both progress and preservation that ensures families, businesses, and neighbors thrive together.
Quality of Life
Quality of life means more than growth, it’s about safe neighborhoods, sufficient local services and amenities, and creating a community that feels like home. For Fuquay-Varina, quality of life means making sure families feel secure, connected, supported and where people want to live, raise families, and stay for generations.
Innovative Leadership
The mayor serves as the official and ceremonial head of the municipal government, representing the city at special events, ceremonies, and with other governmental units.
They act as an ambassador for their city, promoting economic development, attracting investment, and working with community groups and residents. I have leadership experience and a track record of bringing innovative ideas to the town while creating connections with other elected leaders at the local, state and federal level.
